What is the kayak ?

The sea kayak is used by Eskimos to hunt. Today the kayak is in polyester,
kevlar or polyethylene and not in seal skin or sea elephant skin as before
But the shape is the same : rapid, low draught, propelled by a double -bladed
paddle, to keep stability. Kayaks are sometimes equipped with a compass
and a watertight part for equipment. To sum up :

TRIP TO DISCOVER THE SOMME BAY

"Between earth and sea"
It's a trip in the area just beyond the bay, known locally as"mollieres"
covered in vegetation. You can see the grey heron, little egrets,
and some other birds and sheep.

It's a trip at high tide so as to see "the mascaret" (a billow made
by the rising tide). You can see the seals. -

You paddle along the seashove in order to meet the seals which are
relaxing on the bank. According to the tide , you may come back by
car or kayak.

It's a trip around the bay to see seals, the vegetation, birds...with
a picnic break.

EQUIPMENT

You are given a sea kayak,, a paddle, a life jacket, a spray deck You can
choose between kayak doubles and kayak single.

SUPERVISION
top of the page
For every trip, you are supervised by a kayak monitor who is very skilled
and who knows the bay . Even if you have never practised kayak, there is
no problem, it's easy and accessible to everyone.(children : over 7 years
old )

INFORMATIONS

- you must know swimming 25 meters
- you must wear a life jacket
- you must read the "arreté du 4 mai 1995" on our kayak
club
- You should book your trip as soon as possible
- Our price can be postpone
- We can potpone, cancel or alter a trip according to the weather and
the tide
